Hi everyone! I know…it’s about time I update what’s been going on here so far this year. While I haven’t done a lot with the blog here so far, a lot has been going on behind the scenes. For one, I’m pressing ahead with tiling nearly 1/3 of the house on my own.
Originally only one bedroom was going to be tiled after a water leak in the adjoining bathroom got the carpet too wet to salvage. That little project rapidly changed into one where we decided the hallway and a second adjoining bedroom be tiled as well since matching tile in the future would be more difficult than just getting it all done now. I was going to pay someone to do the work since it is a larger job than originally planned but those folks have seemingly dropped “off the planet”. Another company wants nearly 5 times what the first was going to charge which I believe is way too high. So, I’ve been working a little at a time to make progress. Of course I need to purchase more tools than I had planned to – like an undercut saw to trim the baseboards and door jams so the tile will fit underneath. Also a sawzall with a tile attachment is needed to make it easier to remove existing tile (all of about 20 sq ft) and thin set mortar from the existing concrete slab. Those tools will all be in-house by mid-week so layout and installation can begin.
Update: the sawzall I wanted to purchase was on clearance sell at $20 off at Lowes (yea!!) but they were all out of stock when I got there (boo!!). Now I’ll have to wait until the end of the week to pick one up assuming they actually get new stock in as indicated by the guy working the Pro desk. Oh well.
Here’s a quick image I just took to show one of the bedrooms almost ready for me to get down on my hands and knees to start the install process…
