I can’t believe it’s near the end of March and this is only the second update I’ve added this year.
OK; as you all know by now spring and warmer temperatures are well established already here. And with that comes the ever hungry birds – and the typical bird feeder thief. I’ve started using a new product called Coles Flaming Squirrel Seed Sauce. This is supposed to be an extremely hot oil-based liquid that is used to coat the seed before being placed in the bird feeders. The sauce is so hot it will actually burn the typical mucus skin surrounding the nose and mouth (and DO NOT get it in your eyes either!) It is not supposed to harm the birds.
I haven’t been using it long enough to see how the squirrels react to it but it doesn’t seem to be slowing down the birds at all.
