I wanted to give you all an update of what’s going on in our lives right now. Since the hurricane, we’ve been busy trying to get estimates for all of the repairs that need to be done. I met our new owners of the house directly across the street; they bought it even though it was nearly completely destroyed. There was enough left, however, that allowed them to get a building permit to start the rebuild process. It turns out our new neighbor is a licensed contractor AND a public adjuster! He offered to help us with our claim which we immediately took him up on.
I think I mentioned before that our house was livable right after the storm. The rain and winds didn’t breach the house to cause any significant damage inside the house except for a film of dirt that had to be cleaned up from around the main living areas of the house. Sitting inside the house, you couldn’t tell anything bad had happened outside except for all of the downed trees everywhere.
It took 4 months to get my garage door guy out to look at what’s needed for a new door. Got a contract signed and was told it’s going to take another 4 months before the door gets built at the factory and it can get shipped down.
My jeep is still having transmission and/or ECM problems. The latest after getting it back from the shop was related to my new battery. Hooking the ECM up and being gone for the weekend drained my battery so far it can’t be recharged. Send ECM back to the overhaul shop and told them what happened and asked them to fix it right this time. So frustrating as getting this thing fixed and sold is the first step toward getting the truck needed to tow our 5th wheel which we’re planning on getting early next year.
Cleaning up the yard from the hurricane is a never-ending task. The latest debacle has reared its ugly head when I wanted to get my lawn mower out to start chopping down the weeds that are growing. My air compressor – which is needed to fill all of my tires around here with air – stopped working. The plastic housing that holds the start and run capacitors have broken at the attach points (plastic in a high-stress and vibration environment? Who thinks of these things anyway?) Tried to fix it but it didn’t hold. Next step is to take the motor out to see if someone else can repair it or get it replaced. Yikes. So frustrating.
I posted earlier about the latest with a local forest fire. When will it end?
I’m getting depressed just thinking about what more to write so I’m going to quit for now. I think y’all get the idea of what we’re going through down here with the recovery. That’s all for now…
